Organised on Monday night for the third season in a row by the club's officials and the Hednesford Town Football Club Supporters Association, the service saw the Regis and the Pitmen's players team up with the Hednesford Salvation Army Band, handbell ringers from St Peter’s Church, a steel pan band from St Peter’s School, a Staffordshire University Academy musical duo and singer Olivia Crane with a Christmas acapella solo.
Hosted by the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's chaplain, the Rev Paul Kelly, the service saw captain Tom Thorley deliver a Christmas message and physio Gavin Blackwell read from the bible while Regis, now 58 and awarded an MBE in 2008, spoke about his playing career and role as a trustee of Christians in Sport.
The event's organisers were delighted with this year's response to their now annual community event.
HTFCSA committee member Paul Woodhead said: “Our now annual Carol Service at the football club is recognised as a key community event to mark the beginning of the festive period. It was great to once again welcome schools and groups from across Hednesford to Keys Park and share in the message of fellowship and the human spirit at this time of year.”
