Legend up front again for carols!

Former West Bromwich Albion and England striker Cyrille Regis has been booked as the star guest at EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Hednesford Town's Christmas Carol concert.

Regis, now 58 and awarded an MBE in 2008, will be at Keys Park on Monday 5 December for the now annual service, leading the carol singing with the Hednesford Salvation Army Band and talking to fans about his playing career and role as a trustee of Christians in Sport.

Organised by the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club and the Hednesford Town Football Club Supporters Association, next Monday night's service will also see the Pitmen's players and students from St Peter’s Primary School and the Staffordshire University Academy getting into the festive spirit with fans and members of the local community.

The service will also be recorded for Cannock Chase Radio to play on Christmas day and one of the event's three organisers, Gavin Blackwell, said: “We are delighted that Cyrille will be able to join us on the night, for what has become an annual event for us here at the football club. His experience, along with all of the community groups which are due to be in attendance, should help make it another memorable evening at Keys Park.”

Born in French Guiana, but moving to and growing up in West London from the age of five, Regis kicked off his career in Non-League at Molesey and Hayes before being snapped up by First Division West Bromwich Albion for just £5,000 in May 1977.

After making nearly 250 appearances for the Baggies, he went on to make nearly as many at Coventry City before turning out for Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City and finally hanging up his playing boots in 1996.

Free to all, the turnstiles open at 7pm with the service kicking off at 7.30pm. For more information visit: www.hednesfordtownfc.com
