Legendary duo return to score goals

By David Watters

Strikers Justin Richards and Lee Gaskell are expected to be two of the biggest names on the EVO-STIK League's Christmas transfer list on Saturday after returning to Sutton Coldfield Town and Ramsbottom United respectively.

Rammy legend and former Ashton United, Bury, Darlington and Warrington frontman Gaskell returns to Mark Fell's squad with more than 120 goals to his name for the club after a brief spell with neighbours and EVO-STIK League North rivals Colne.

The 32-year-old, a veteran of 238 games for Ramsbottom over several spells including their rise from the North West Counties League, is back at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium in time for the busy Christmas and New Year period and Fell thinks “Gassy” has a point to prove.

Ahead of his side's trip to Tadcaster Albion, Fell said: "He’s still got a hunger, he loves the club and as a finisher there’s not many better. The way we’re playing at the moment we’re creating lots of chances and we’ve got to be more clinical.

"Christmas is a key period for us and we need to utilise our resources effectively - we’ve set ourselves a target for the Xmas period that we need to achieve to put us back in the hunt."

Richards, who lists Burton Albion, Cheltenham Town, Oxford United and Tamworth among his most recent emplyoyers, left Coles Lane for Stourbridge in 2015 after top scoring for the Royals with 29 goals.

After signing the 37-year-old, pictured, on Friday, the rock-bottom Royals said the hot-shot would go straight into their squad for Saturday's visit of Witton Albion in the EVO-STIK League's top flight.

A spokesman said: "We are delighted to announce that striker Justin Richards has joined the club for a second spell at Coles Lane. Justin played a massive role in the club gaining promotion to the Northern Premier League before moving to Stourbridge.

"He has been sidelined for a while with a serious injury and is now back to full fitness. He has been included in the squad for Witton Albion and everyone at the club wishes him good luck and plenty of goals to get us back up the table."
