Linesman hailed a hero in media

By David Watters

Trafford's Danny Frost has been given the all clear by medics as the linesman who administered life-saving first aid treatment when the striker suffered a serious head injury in EVO-STIK League on Saturday was being hailed a hero.

Match official Zharir Mustafa, pictured, was making headlines on the BBC and elsewhere on Sunday for his quick reactions after Frost collided with a perimeter barrier at Colwyn Bay on Saturday and swallowed his tongue before the EVO-STIK North clash was abandoned.

Trafford chairman John Eadie told BBC Sport Mustafa's "great job saved the player's life" as the 29-year-old recovers at home after being released from Glan Clwyd Hospital with a clean bill of health following a brain scan and other checks.

Eadie added: "Danny knows very little about the incident, he was out cold for about 10 to 15 minutes and experiencing convulsions. He woke up startled, not knowing where he was and is still sore down one side. Incredibly, he wants to play on Saturday and is raring to go, but I think that is unlikely."

Frost was hurt in the 65th minute chasing a long ball forward with the hosts leading 2-0, crashing into a wall in the wet conditions at Llanelian Road after being unable to halt his momentum. The fixture was abandoned by referee Kristian Silcock soon after Mustafa rushed to his aid before he was treated on the pitch by the medics of both clubs for nearly an hour.

@leftarmdragon, fan Michael Roberts, posted an image of Mustafa on Twitter with the caption "@ColwynBayFC @FCTrafford this is what a hero looks like", and Gary Frost, the player's father, told the BBC he was "eternally grateful" to Mustafa.

"You sir, are a hero," he said. He and both clubs also thanked Trafford physio Jake North, who "lay on a soaking pitch for 50 minutes supporting Danny's head" after an air ambulance from Caernarfon was originally called.

Trafford and the former Barnsley, Bradford Park Avenue, Gainsborough Trinity, Ossett Albion, Ossett Town, Pontefract Colliery, Shaw Lane, Tadcaster Albion and Winterton Rangers forward both thanked well wishers this weekend with the club also singling out the linesman for special praise in a series of tweets.

@FCTrafford posted: "Once again, we would like to express our thanks for all the good wishes Danny & the club have received from our wonderful #footballfamily". We would like to say “thank you” to Assistant Ref Zharir Mustafa who, with his quick reaction to go to the aide of @DannyFrosty07 undoubtedly prevented an unthinkable outcome this afternoon. Words can’t express the gratitude of us all."

Frost, pictured waiting to be released from his hospital bed, wrote: "Words cannot describe how grateful I am and overwhelmed with all your messages."
