Lottery call for Blues fans

Leek Town have launched a new campaign to boost membership of their fund-raising ‘Monthly Draw’.

Officials at the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club are urging supporters to renew their £5 monthly membership or sign up for the first time as a Christmas gift with fears that numbers may be starting to dwindle. Launched in January 2011, the draw paid out more than £8,665 to 96 winning fans in the first year alone and raised £6,382 for improvements at Harrison Park.

Despite dropping from a high of 336 members to a last count of 240, the Blues have already received £6,019 during the current campaign for work at Harrison Park. The lottery windfall has been used to rebuild the toilet block in the Blues Bar, redecorate the social club, purchase a CCTV system and replaced televisions in the Blues Bar, VP Room and Boardroom.

A Blues spokesman said: "The Monthly Draw has been an effective fundraiser for the club and has provided an opportunity for members to win good cash prizes for an outlay of £5 per month and support the club at the same time.

"To help the club to continue the good work over the previous two years, club officials need all Blues supporters to continue their membership for the forthcoming year and for former members to rejoin.

"New members are urged to sign up and existing ones are requested to continue their monthly contributions. Those who pay annually should contact their agent with their £60 fee.

"Anyone interested in joining can complete a membership form which is available on the Leek Town website. Those who don’t have internet access can pick up a form from the club shop which is open on match days.”
