Lynch is back as new boss

By David Watters

Former Marine manager and Chesterfield coach Kevin Lynch is back in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League as the new manager of Colwyn Bay.

The 40-year-old Merseysider was unveiled at lunchtime on Friday, pictured, as the successor to Ashley Hoskins at Llanelian Road following his departure from the Premier Division club earlier this month.

After guiding the Mariners for four years, Lynch was at Chesterfield during two of their most successful seasons, winning the League Two title and getting to Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2014 and reaching the League One play-off semi-final the following season.

Lynch, who has most recently been working with the academy stars at Blackburn Rovers, is looking forward to getting back onto the touchlines as a manager and promising to bring success to the Seagulls with "a brand of football that gives fans value for money".

He said: "Marine and other clubs I have been with will vouch for the style of football I like to play and I can promise everyone who comes to watch Colwyn Bay that my team will look to entertain.

"At the current moment, I'm not going to lie, it is going to take a little time to work with the players, access them and get their fitness levels to where they need to be to play the football I like to play.

"But its not all about me. It doesn't need a rocket scientist to know the position we are in, so its about everyone rolling up their sleeves and showing what they're made of.

"Its a really tough start going straight into two away games in three days, but I wouldn't have taken the job if I didn't think I was up for the challenge."

Lynch, who helped write national headlines for Vauxhall Motors as a player when he scored the winning spot kick in the First Round of the FA Cup at Loftus Road in 2002 to knock out Queen's Park Rangers, added: "We've got 27 games left and there is enough points there for us to turn things round and start climbing the table. I just hope supporters, the board, and everyone at the club get behind us and we can all enjoy the ride together."

Club vice-chairman Kurtis Chapman said: "We are absolutely delighted to be announcing the new manager of Colwyn Bay Football Club. Like I have said previously it is massive we get the right man this time and someone who knows this league inside out.

"In Kev we have that. His CV speaks for itself, he has achieved success wherever has been and we need that replicating here. He met the lads at training last night and is getting his hands dirty from day one, taking the team for tomorrow’s game.

Thanking the club's caretaker management team and urging fans to get behind Lynch, he added: "I would like to thank Dan Nolan, Rob Hopley and Mike Lea who I believe have galvanised the lads in the last couple of weeks and for that the board are extremely grateful.

"We have plenty of games left and lots of points to play for. With a few away games now and not home until the 7th November it would be great to get a big crowd to cheer Kev on in his first home game."
