Manager Lynch influential at Clitheroe says Lonsdale

Clitheroe defender Cole Lonsdale has said manager David Lynch has played a major role in the successful re-signings at the club.

The former Bolton defender re-joined the Blues last summer after a short spell at division rivals Workington, and impressed prior to lockdown.

Lonsdale is just one of many re-signings at the club, with Lynch managing to tie down all his senior players from last season for the upcoming campaign, including club captain Billy Priestley.

Lonsdale said: “It was very easy for me to make the decision with the way the club is going at the minute.

“It’s a club that wants to push for National League with a great manager and chairman behind them, so it was a no brainer in terms of staying and doing the best I can for the club.

“Speaking to a few of the lads whilst we’ve been away from the game and I’m the same as them, it’s been a no brainer to stay on.

“This is due to the manager, who has been spot on since day one and you can tell the difference with him and Carl Garner have made since coming into the club.”

Garner, the club’s director of football, has been a fan of Lonsdale for some time now, and has said he believes the 21-year-old has the ability to move up in the football pyramid.

Lonsdale said: “Carl has known me for a long time now, and watched me through the ranks at Bolton.

“He’s a good guy with good intentions and it’s always good to hear I have his backing with the players he has brought through.

“In terms of progressing and going up the leagues, this is my fourth season at Clitheroe and I have enjoyed every minute of it. My aims are for the next season and getting that promotion and giving 100% every week for my team and then hopefully with my ability and hard work I believe I can achieve higher, but again solely at the minute it’s impressing the manager at Clitheroe and doing the best I can for the team.”
