Marske strengthen backline with captain set to leave club

Marske United have agreed a deal to sign centre-back Dan Myers.

The highly sought-after defender joins the Seasiders from Northern League champions Newton Aycliffe.

Myers won Young Player of the Season for his club last year after some fantastic defensive exploits for Aycliffe, and has also previously been on the books at the Quakers, Spennymoor and Crook Town.

Speaking about his decision to sign for the club, he said: “Having played against Marske a couple of years ago, I’ve seen how good the fans are and the potential for the club.

“After meeting with Graeme and hearing about the plans for the club and his coaching background, the opportunity was too good to turn down.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started."

His arrival comes as the club prepare for life without defensive stalwart and captain Adam Wheatley.

The 33-year-old has had a transfer request accepted, with his decision based on "travel commitments with a young family and work", Marske said in a statement.

Wheatley, who played an instrumental role in their rise from Step 6 to Step 3, has made 501 appearances for the Seasiders - the third-highest tally in club history.
