Matlock Town boss urges consistency from squad

Matlock Town manager Martin Carruthers has challenged his players to show more consistency in their performances as they continue their hunt for a play-off spot.

The Gladiators have won just one of their last six matches, but have also lost just once during that time.

That defeat came last weekend away at Whitby Town, who ran out emphatic 4-1 winners after racing into a 3-0 lead before half-time.

Recent form has left Carruthers' squad six points adrift of the top five ahead of Saturday's trip to struggling Marske United.

“Over the last six games we’ve only lost once, but equally we’ve only won once so we needed to turn some of those draws into wins," he said.

"We’d have been better losing three and winning three. The South Shields result [a goalless draw at the beginning of March] and performance was outstanding, so it was really disappointing for everyone at the club that we turned in such a poor show at Whitby.

"We made them look like world-beaters. It’s easy to raise your game against the top sides, but we also need to be able to go to places like Whitby and Lancaster and perform.”

Where next?
