McDonald hails fans for support

Hednesford Town manager Liam McDonald has hailed the club's fans for cheering his side to victory in Monday night's 2-1 win at Stourbridge in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top flight.

The 31-year-old, pictured alongside number two Nick Green before ending a three year spell managing Redditch United to succeed Frank Sinclair in May, saluted supporters on Tuesday for the support they've given his side since they kicked off the new season on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Spennymoor Town at Keys Park.

After seeing his Pitmen players earn all three points again, McDonald said: “The support on Monday evening was fantastic. It was a real positive for us and as I said at the recent ‘Meet the Manager’ event, it will be important for the fans to be part of the journey.

“They are an important part of the club being together as one, and they have certainly showed that so far. I had to look around a couple of times last night and check where the noise was coming from as it felt like a home crowd with the way our fans got behind the team.

“On Saturday it was similar, as soon as we got on top they got right behind the team and intimidated the opposition. At the end of the game last night I went to take the players across to the supporters, and at first I thought they were only in one area but they were spread over into two stands – which was great to see."

He added: “We know that there will be ups and downs over the course of the season but they have a real positive to play and I would just like to thank them for the backing they have given us so far.”

The Pitmen look to continue their unbeaten run when they head to Ashton United in the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division on Saturday.
