Midfielder returns as new manager's number two

Newly installed Ramsbottom United manager Jon Robinson has brought classy midfielder Phil Edghill back to the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club as his new assistant manager.

The experienced 35-year-old, pictured, was unveiled as Robinson's number two at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Tuesday, three days after the Premier Division club's new player manager took the helm in the wake of the departure of former joint bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley to manage First Division North Salford City.

Ironically, Edghill returned from Moor Lane after Johnson and Morley allowed him to leave and sign for the Ammies in December 2013. The former Chadderton and Rossendale United player made more than 250 games for Curzon Ashton and was part of the Hyde side that won promotion to the Conference Premier.

During his previous spell with the Rams, Edghill became a fans favourite with his displays during 39 appearances and 10 more from the substitutes bench. He scored just one goal in a 3-2 win over local rivals Radcliffe Borough on New Year’s Day 2013.

Edghill and Robinson will team up for the first time on Saturday when the club host Trafford in the Premier Division and officials believe he will be welcomed back with open arms by supporters as the club kicks off a new era.

A Rams spokesman said: "During his spell at the club he was extremely popular with the supporters who will be delighted to welcome him back."
