Miller behind brain training

Harrogate Railway Athletic have become the latest Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club to team up with academics to educate young footballers.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division North Rail have launched a new partnership with nearby Askham Bryan College to offer students a chance to train and play as academy footballers in the national leagues.

The players, who'll be developing key skills required for the sporting industry while studying for nationally recognised qualifications, will have the chance to attract the attention of Harrogate manager Billy Miller as he's also the Sports Lecturer at the institution.

Successful candidates can progress to Level 3 and Higher Educational degree courses in sport and Miller says that having staff from across various areas of the industry will ensure students are signposted onto further educational courses and into realistic careers.

The course will run out of the new building at Station View and Miller warned it won't be easy as the club and college started their recruitment process this week.

Miller said: "Opportunities in sport are highly sought after and the course requires a lot of commitment and a good attitude to succeed. As part of the academy team students will train and play throughout their course of study. This really is a unique opportunity for students to pursue a career in sport while enhancing their knowledge of the game and gaining recognised qualifications."
