Carlton Town’s fans, players and officials are looking forward to another day out at the races after the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s Millers announced they were teaming up with Southwell Racecourse again this summer.

For the second year running, the First Division South’s officials are planning a ‘Carlton Town Day at the Races’ after successfully teaming up with the Nottinghamshire course, pictured, to first raise funds last July.

More than 400 people followed the Millers to the races last time out with a host of the clubs legends at the event including Mark Dickinson, rated by many as their greatest ever player, former captain Steve Garrett, goal-scoring legend Steve Chaplin and long-serving stars Dave Jephson and Simon Newell. They were joined by another Millers legend in Ian White, former manager Tommy Brookbanks and current boss Les McJannet.

This summer’s event is set to take place on Sunday 13 July, the first race day of the summer, after the club negotiated a new deal knocking 50 per cent off the price of tickets originally costing £14.

Carlton Town Chairman Mick Garton was delighted to secure another big date in the club’s calendar and thanked the neighbouring racecourse for their support.

Garton said: "This is a fantastic gesture once again from the racecourse to support our community football club and do an amazing deal for us that allows us to make tickets available at half price. I cannot thank them enough as this will give us a massive financial boost ahead of next season."

Southwell Racecourse’s Nathan Cordon said: "We are delighted to be working with Carlton Town again this year. Last year’s event received such positive feedback and we hope this year’s event will be even bigger and better than ever."
