Minute's applause to mark tragedy

By David Watters

EVO-STIK League Stafford Rangers and South Shields were set to pay a joint tribute on Saturday during their Buildbase FA Trophy tie to the young Mariners fan who passed away in tragic circumstances this week.

As well as remembering the nation's fallen on Armistice Day before kicking off against the EVO-STIK League North club in the second qualifying round, supporters were set to hold a minute's applause in the 10th minute to mark the death of 10-year-old season ticket holder Jak Fada on Monday only a few hours after complaining of chest pains at school.

A goalkeeper for his school team at Westoe Crown Primary School, Jak had a heart condition when he was younger but was given the all-clear at the age of five. Tragically for his family and mum Ashley Tomlin and dad Tony Fada, the football-mad youngster - pictured with the FA Vase after seeing his heroes lift the trophy at Wembley in May - passed away a day after his great-grandfather James Tomlin.

The 2017 FA Vase winners will also hold a minute's applause for the youngster before kicking off in their next home against Droyslden next Saturday after hosting his funeral service and wake at Mariners Park on Wednesday.
