Monday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

There were a couple of matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Monday night and both had significance at the top end of the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Leaders Curzon Ashton entertained mid-table Northwich Victoria looking to extend their advantage at the top to nine points. However, a determined Vics` side, who have tightened-up at the back since Jim Gannon took over, held the hosts to a goalless draw at the Tameside Stadium – the Vics` second successive 0-0 draw.

Bamber Bridge moved into sixth place – three points behind Lancaster City who occupy the final play-off spot – after recording a 2-0 win at Church Lane against fourth-bottom New Mills.

There were few opportunities created in the opening 45 minutes, but 11 minutes into the second period, Brig took the lead through Mattie Kay. And the Lancastrians made sure of victory with a last-minute Zach Clark effort.
