Tweeting-mad Robins pass another milestone!

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Ashton United are preparing to raise the bar for their social media manager again after he passed the last record breaking target they set within a few weeks.

The Robins say they are punching above their weight when it comes to online interest thanks to the efforts of Ken Philburn who has overseen a social media explosion since being set a target of adding a modest 1,000 followers a year to their Twitter account earlier in the season.

By early February, astonished officials at Hurst Cross were congratulating Philburn on passing the 3,000 mark and at the weekend were hailing him again after @AshtonUnitedFC sailed past 4,000 followers less than a month after he'd been set a new 5,000 target!

The Premier Division’s Robins hope their success will be reflected in higher gates and commercial activity at Hurst Cross in the future as they quickly share news and information with fans and sponsors.

Ashton United’s Communications Director Steve Hobson: "Ashton United may well be perceived by many as a 'little fish in a big pond' compared to others at our level of the Non-League Pyramid. However, thanks to the unstinting efforts of Ken Philburn, we are punching well above our weight.

"To have so many people and businesses, the vast majority across Tameside, wanting to be kept informed about our club and its achievements is staggering!"

Confirmed Twitter fan Philburn said: "I really enjoy the role of social media manager. As an older IT user, I am proud to be able to show the younger generation that we 'oldies' can make a difference in modern day culture, and that we can embrace change for the better."
