The only game on Monday night in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South saw Halesowen Town return to the top of the table with a 2-0 win at The Moat Ground against mid-table Gresley FC, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Halesowen's home defeat to Belper Town on Saturday saw them determined to bounce back to keep their title hopes alive. And they got off to a great start when Jamie Barrett brought down top scorer Ben Haseley in the box and the experienced Iyseden Christie converted the resultant penalty to give the Yeltz a seventh minute lead.
Gresley fought their way into the game but were unable to find a leveller and Haseley made them pay when he notched his 18th goal of the season in the 33rd minute, the striker racing clear to slot past the exposed Mats Morch.
Gresley improved in the second half but the damage had been done and they were unable to make any inroads into the scoreline.
