The home side scored with virtually their first attack in the fifth minute through Callum Smith.
And just two minutes later, the Nottinghamshire outfit found themselves two up when Courey Grantham netted a rebound after his initial shot had been saved by Leek keeper Chris Martin.
Chris Budrys pulled one back for the visitors in the 18th minute and just four minutes later, Leek were level when a fine run and pass by Jordan Johnson found Budrys, who slid home his second of the game.
But just a few minutes later, Budrys was brought down by keeper Saul Deeney when clean through and the Basford keeper received his marching orders. With no replacement keeper on the bench, defender Fabian Smith was forced to don the gloves.
And on the hour-mark, the ten-men took the lead through Jack Wood, who took advantage of a poor clearance. Two minutes later and Leek came close to levelling but Johnson`s effort was saved by Smith.
And Basford went straight up the other end and scored a fourth, courtesy of Grantham with his second of the match. James Gibbons hit the crossbar for Leek in the final few minutes, but Basford held out for a very good win under the circumstances.
