It was a tail of two penalties at the The Kensite Stadium against another side who had outside top six hopes ahead of kick-off, Atherton Collieries.
The visitors were awarded the first spot-kick after 12 minutes for handball and Max Leonard converted. But the leveller, also from 12 yards, came on 63 minutes when skipper Brad Cooke was bowled over in the box and Ben Hardcastle netted.
It didn`t end well for Cook though as he was sent-off near the end for a reckless challenge on Luke Porritt. And the draw did neither much good, with Colls twelve points adrift of the play-off places with twelve points left to play for.
Clitheroe`s slim hopes of making the top six also disappeared on Monday as they were beaten by third-bottom Brighouse Town, who are now safe, Adam Field after half-an-hour and Dan Naiddle 12 minutes from time, with the Brighouse goals.
Second-bottom Skelmersdale United are all-but mathematically safe, despite a 3-2 defeat at Stormy Corner against mid-table Droylsden.
It looked done and dusted as the Bloods led 3-0 with goals from Dominic Smith, Liam Caddick and a Jack Lenehan own goal. But Skem made it a nervy end when they pulled two back in the final six minutes from Josh Wardle and then Lenehan at the right end this time.
