Monday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

A game which had little riding on it apart from pride and final placings saw Stourbridge lose at the War Memorial Ground to Workington AFC in the EVO-STIK League Premier on Monday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Steven Rigg gave the visiting Reds an early third minute lead when his header rebounded down off the cross bar and over the line. The Glassboys were level in the 26th minute when Chris Gallagher`s cross was converted by Brad Birch.

All-square at the break but the home side took the lead just two minutes into the second half when a Luke Benbow free-kick found the corner of the net from 25 yards. However, the Reds equalised just two minutes later when Jordan Holt`s pass found Leo Holliday, whose shot crept past Matt Gould into the bottom left corner of the net.

What turned out to be the winning goal arrived in the 82nd minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty which Rigg duly converted. The win lifts Workington up to eighth and the Glassboys remain in fourteenth.
