Ilkeston FC moved to the top of the fledgling Premier Division table on Monday night after recording a 4-2 win over league newcomers Barwell at the New Manor Ground, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, the visiting Canaries shocked the Robins by taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening nine minutes, courtesy of a fine diving header from Richard Lavery on seven minutes and a neat curling effort from the in-form Danny Newton two minutes later. But the home side were back in the game after 27 minutes when Kane Richards was brought down in the box and Aaron Webster stepped up to net the resultant spot-kick.

Barwell's lead was cancelled out just before half-time in controversy after it was claimed that Aaron Hooton had been head-butted in the box as a free-kick was set to be taken. After speaking with his assistant the referee decided to award Ilkeston a penalty which Webster duly converted.

Aaron Hooton finally gave the hosts the lead nine minutes after the restart before Gary Ricketts added a fourth at the death to make the final score 4-2 and send Kevin Wilson's side top – at least until the end of Tuesday night's action.
