Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division

FC United of Manchester, AFC Fylde and Ilkeston FC lead the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's top flight table on thirteen points apiece, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ilkeston, 4-2 winners over Barwell on Monday, were joined at the top of the Premier Division by FCUM and the Coasters after both recorded convincing wins on Tuesday night.

FC United beat Witton Albion 3-1 at Gigg Lane, taking a 13th minute lead, courtesy of an Ollie Banks penalty. They then doubled their advantage on 32 minutes through Tom Greaves. The crowd of 1,614 had to wait until the hour-mark for the game to be put to bed by the home side when Dean Stott added a crucial third goal, rendering Anthony Sheehan's reply 10 minutes from time as nothing more than a consolation.

Up at Fylde, Droylsden continue to struggle following relegation from the Conference North and suffered a 5-0 drubbing at Kellamergh Park. Matt Blinkhorn started the rout after 23 minutes and Mattie Hughes made it 2-0 at the break with a second on 36 minutes. Harry Winter and then Dave Hankin doubled the score to 4-0 with two goals in four minutes midway through the second period, with Joe Booth making it a nap hand 12 minutes from time.

Chorley's good start to the season continued after a 6-2 win over newly-promoted Trafford at Victory Park. But it was the visitors who drew first blood when Ali Brown put them in front inside eight minutes. Darren Stephenson equalised in the 26th minute and then Josh Hine sent the Magpies into the half-time interval in front when he scored right on the whistle.

Eleven minutes after the break and Stephenson's second made it 3-1 to the hosts. They were to add further goals from Andy Teague on 61 minutes, Stephenson in the 71st and Tom Baker a couple of minutes from time – with Michael Oates netting a second for the well-beaten visitors in stoppage time.

Skelmersdale United, who came up with Trafford from First Division North, fought off a comeback by still pointless Stafford Rangers to win by the odd goal in five at the West Lancs College Stadium.

Goals from Adam Morning on the half-hour mark and recent signing Nick Rogan four minutes later, gave Skem a two-goal lead that Rangers did well to pull back through on-loan Michael Lennon just after the break and then Fabrice Kasiama on 69 minutes. But just as it looked as though Rangers were going to earn their first point of the 2013-14 campaign, Kevin Leadbetter's penalty winner two minutes from time broke their hearts.

Stamford AFC, who came up from First Division South, are finding it tough at the higher level and were beaten by the odd goal in seven at Kettering Road by Rushall Olympic.

Tom Eckersley gave the Pics a 15th minute lead that Ryan Robbins cancelled out five minutes later, only for veteran Dele Adebola to restore the visitors' lead nine minutes after that. The scoring resumed eight minutes into the second half when Luke Blakely pulled the Daniels back on terms.

Robbins scored his second four minutes later to take the home side into a 3-2 lead but the see-saw affair had a twist in the tail for Stamford fans as Josh Craddock equalised after 69 minutes and then Matty Woods grabbed a last-gasp winner for Neil Kitching`s men.

Robbie Dale also left it late to snatch Blyth Spartans' winner at Frickley Athletic – the only goal of the game coming five minutes from time - as did a Joe Fowler goal for Marine at home against Nantwich Town, who continued their slow start to the season under new boss Danny Johnson.

The other Tuesday game saw newly-promoted King`s Lynn Town and Grantham Town share the spoils at The Walks in front of a crowd of 670.

George Thomson gave the Linnets a 15th minute lead only for a Jason Lee own goal six minutes from time to restore parity. But the Gingerbreads could have left Norfolk with all three points had Danny Gay not made a late save from Gary King and Thomson not headed Michael Towey’s effort off his own line.
