Monday's Premier Division review

By David Watters

Hednesford Town moved into third place in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division table, albeit maybe only for 24 hours, after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mickleover Sports at Keys Park on Monday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Despite there being only one goal on the night, it was an entertaining affair for the 356 crowd on a chilly autumnal-feeling evening.

The first half saw the home side boss the majority of the play without really threatening a breakthrough, although Danny Glover did force a good save from loanee keeper Jake Eastwood in the 15th minute and George Carline was unable to force home the rebound.

The second half was much more exciting, with Gurjit Singh hitting the post 10 minutes in. And then Hednesford took the lead on the hour-mark when Michael Williams' low shot was back-heeled home by Glover.

Four minutes from time and Carline almost doubled the Pitmen`s lead but his header came back out off the bar. As stoppage time approached, Mickleover had a late chance when a header was cleared off the line.
