To mark the 10th anniversary of scoring the fastest goal in FA Cup history, Gareth Morris was guest of honour at his former club, Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Ashton United, for their FA Cup tie with Runcorn Town of the North West Counties League.
Before the game Morris met with the club’s directors - many of whom were involved with the club when he scored that historic goal against Skelmersdale United back in 2001, and at half-time was presented to the supporters from the rain-sodden pitch.
Following Ashton’s 5-1 win against a spirited Runcorn side, Morris was presented with a framed copy of the match report, accompanying pictures and the match programme from the Skelmersdale game as a momento of his record-breaking effort, which was timed at just four seconds.
