Mossley defender commits to club

Mossley right-back Will Shepherd has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the season.

Earlier in his career, the youngster spent eight years at the Rochdale AFC academy, before signing scholarship forms for Salford City, where he captained the youth team to the Alliance League Championship.

He went on to sign professional terms at the Peninsula Stadium, making his senior debut in September 2019 against Manchester United before injuries and the pandemic lead to him dropping into non-league football.

Shepherd has been in terrific form for the Lilywhite this season, fighting off competition and cementing his place as the club’s first-choice right-back.

He has featured 13 times so far for Mossley, who currently sit in the Pitching In NPL West Division play-off places.

On his new deal, manager David Fish said: “Will is an excellent footballer. He reads the game, is a great passer of the ball, is fit and defends well.

“In a season where he’s adapted to full-back he’s kept some of the best wingers quiet.

“The contract is a reward for his hard work and performances, and also a sign of our desire to keep Will with us beyond the end of the current campaign.”
