Worksop Town

Mark Shaw moved to strengthen his squad at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Worksop Town on Friday with three major signings.

Former Gainsborough Trinity goalkeeper Jan Budtz has arrived at Sandy Lane along with defender Josh Williams who joins on dual registration from the Conference North outfit. Town’s third and most eye-catching arrival, midfielder Adam Murray, has signed on loan from League Two Mansfield Town.

Shaw believes the arrival of Budtz and former Stags skipper Williams, pictured, demonstrates the quality of players the Tigers are now able to attract.

Murray, 32, captained Mansfield to the Conference title last season as well as leading them to the FA Trophy Final in 2010. He kicked off his career at Derby County and has also played for Notts County, Kidderminster Harriers, Carlisle United, Torquay United, Macclesfield Town, Oxford United and Luton Town.

Danish-born Budtz, 34, was at FC Nordsjaelland before moving to England and signing for Doncaster Rovers where he famously saved two penalties on his debut in a penalty shoot-out against Manchester City. Since then he’s played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Hartlepool United, Oldham Athletic, Eastwood Town, Stalybridge Celtic and Buxton.

Hailing both Budtz and Murray, Shaw said: "These are two outstanding signings for us. We are very fortunate to sign two players of such quality but it does indicate the type of player we can attract. Murray is a very talented player who will be a major player in our midfield, he is capable of playing at a much higher level.

"He is without doubt the biggest signing I have made in my managerial career. His experience and leadership skills will prove invaluable and I would also like to thank Mansfield Town Chairman John Radford for allowing Murray to join us as well as Jason Clark who has been pivotal in this signing.

"We were unlucky to lose Jon Stewart through injury, however in Budtz we have an excellent replacement. A good tall, commanding ‘keeper who played a key role in helping Gainsborough reach the FA Trophy Semi-Final last season.

"I would also like to go on record in thanking Ben Gathercole who I believe has a big future ahead of him with Worksop Town. Ben has been playing through an injury to help us out and we shall only see the best of him when he is fully fit."

Shaw is also looking forward to seeing the contribution 18-year-old former Sheffield United defender Williams makes at Sandy Lane. He can play at full back or centre half and his new manager added: "Williams is a very good prospect who will add depth to the squad which will be needed as the season progresses."
