Stamford AFC are making history after the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South outfit's newly appointed chairman became the second youngest in English football.

The Daniels announced today [Tuesday] that Chris Rivett, 33, is not only the youngest in the club's history but second only in youth to Matthew Conridge who was just 27 when he took over at Evo-Stik Southern oufit Tiverton Town in April.

Rivett joined the club's board in July and is the managing director of sports media company, Final Third Sports Media, who have offices in Northampton and New South Wales, Australia.

"It is a terrific privilege and a wonderful opportunity," said Rivett, who has just spent the last six weeks working in a senior reporting role for the Olympic News Service. "This is a proper football club, steeped in 116 years of history, and it is a real honour to be invited by the board of directors to be the chairman."

Stamford's new top man believes the Daniels are in a great position to grow and is looking forward to helping leave a real legacy at the PK Arena.

He said: "There is a big challenge ahead with the new stadium on the horizon but it is an exciting one and I would like to thank the board for providing me with this opportunity. This is the right club for me at the right time and I cannot wait to get started properly and add to the good work that the board have in progress at the present time."

Rivett added: "They have done an excellent job in a difficult economic climate to consistently turn a profit over the last few seasons and they should be congratulated for that. It has set up a fantastic chance for the club to grow and I am really looking forward to contributing to the development of the club for future generations to enjoy."
