New programme for female talent

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Kendal Town are stepping up their support for the women's game.

The Mintcakes are setting up a girls football development centre and are launching the initiative at the Dallam School Sports Centre in Milnthorpe at 6pm on Friday night as part of the EVO-STIK NPL First Division North club's ongoing quest to raise the standards of youth football throughout the region.

Before holding an information evening on their plans at their sports and social club Finney’s on Tuesday night, Kendal Town chairman George Gudgeon told fans they were looking forward to building on their increasing success in youth development in recent seasons.

Gudgeon said: “We have been providing a very successful boys FA Charter Standard football development programme for the past three years and we want to continue to build on that success.”

"We have appointed a director of youth development in Tosh Farrell, who has a fantastic coaching reputation with boys and girls, and he will lead the programme. Tosh will be supported not only by our regular coaching staff but also by coaches with experience of coaching and working with the national women's senior and youth teams."

He added: "We want to provide opportunities and pathways for our community and girls’ football is an area we feel we can help nurture."
