Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Wins for Spennymoor Town and Matlock Town on Tuesday night saw them move to within three points of the top five in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Premier Division, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Spennymoor, buoyed by their fine showing in the Emirates FA Cup First Round defeat against League One MK Dons last weekend, had to come from behind at the New Manor Ground against lowly Ilkeston FC after Ben Morris put the hosts in front after 25 minutes.

But four minutes before the break, recent signing Adam Mitchell equalised. Jamie Chandler then gave Moors the lead in the 77th minute, with Graeme Armstrong making sure with a third in the 87th minute. And they needed that third goal as the Robins reduced the deficit in stoppage time through Luis Rose.

The Gladiators won 2-1 at Causeway Lane against lower mid-table Grantham Town.

Michael Williams gave the home side a 37th minute lead. However, they failed to capitalise on that and Lee Shaw looked to have earned the Gingerbreads a point when he equalised with less than 10 minutes remaining. But up popped Ted Cribley to win it for Matlock less than two minutes later.

In the evening`s only other league game, Workington AFC ended a three-game losing run with a comfortable 4-0 Borough Park victory over Marine AFC.

Scott Allison gave the Reds an early ninth minute lead that Alex Newby doubled from the penalty spot 20 minutes later. Five minutes into the second half and Conor Tinnion added Workington`s third with another spot-kick, this time converted by Jack Ryan, to make it 4-0 and take the Reds above the Mariners into fourteenth spot.
