Iredale had been in charge of Northern League side Ryton and Crawcrook Albion. He left the club by mutual consent in September after a difficult start to the season.
In his previous year in charge, Iredale led the Northern League side to the EA Cup, and a sixth place finish.
Iredale says he is going to give everything, and asked the fans to stay positive.
“I am extremely proud and grateful to be given this opportunity to be the next manager of North Shields Football Club, a very well known, ambitious club,” he told the club website.
“I think me and the team will be a wonderful fit going forward. We are all excited to be a part of it and can’t wait to put in the hard work to make it a success.
“Anything I’ve been involved in I have always aimed high, it’s the only way I know. At a club like this it should be the minimum expectations for all involved.
“We must bounce straight back and aim for promotion at the first time of asking along with the exciting prospect of the FA Vase and the other cup competitions as well as the league season ahead.
“We must enjoy our football but that must be matched with ambition, effort, and drive across all players and management and we will strive for nothing less.
I would like to tell the supporters to stay very positive. It’s been a tough week or so with Marc, Anthony and others leaving after a successful five year tenure which is something they should be proud of.
“One thing I can promise to you all is that myself and my team are here to win and give everything we have to make sure all ambition by this club is met.
“So please get behind us from the start and let’s do something special this year!”
