With table-topping Radcliffe's home game against Morpeth Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Hyde United closed the gap at the top to 15 points after producing a stunning 3-2 comeback win over Atherton Collieries.
The Tigers found themselves two goals down against the relegation-threatened visitors before turning things around either side of half-time.
Joel Amado reduced the deficit before the break then Jack Redshaw and Matthew Fearnley scored in quick succession, within 10 minutes of the second half resuming.
Elsewhere in the play-off picture, first half goals from Tunde Owolabi and John Rooney were enough to see Macclesfield past Marine at the Leasing.com Stadium, in new manager Michael Clegg's first game in charge.
That result sees the Silkmen climb above fourth-placed Warrington Rylands - Clegg's former club - on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Lancaster City moved to within three points of the top five after a 1-0 home win over Basford United.
Charlie Bailey scored the Dolly Blues' all-important goal midway through the first half as they extended their unbeaten run in the league to six matches.
Workington climbed back into the top half after coming from behind to win 3-1 at FC United of Manchester.
Top scorer David Symington took his tally for the season to 23, before further goals from Sam Hetherington and Lewis Reilly secured all three points at Broadhurst Park.
Elsewhere, a first half double from Declan Howe proved enough for Gainsborough Trinity as they climbed to 12th with a 2-0 win at home to Whitby Town.
The final game of the afternoon saw Bradford Park Avenue boost their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Stafford Rangers.
The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot 65 minutes in as Jordan Preston converted from 12 yards out for the hosts.
