N/West round-up: Brighouse Town claim first win of season

Jack Boyle scored a brace within 30 minutes in the first half, and the side now sit 16th in the Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West table.

Manager Vill Powell said: “It was a good, solid performance. It was a tough battle, they’re a good side.

“They’re obviously down there with us, even though it’s early days now, so it’s always good to get a result. I’m pleased with how we started the game. I thought we were on the front foot from the start and played some really good football in some tight areas."

Danny Grainger’s Workington jumped to the top of the table following their 3-0 victory away to Ossett United. Goals from Scott Allison, Reuben Jerome and Bradley Hubbold.

In second spot, Ramsbottom United claimed the three points away to Tadcaster Albion, thanks to goals from Domaine Rouse and Tom Kennedy for a 2-1 result.

Colne defeated City of Liverpool in a six-goal thriller, with the hosts, who now sit third, claiming a 4-2 win. Goals from Jamie Cooke, Anthony Williams and a brace from Reece Webb-Foster.

Iwan Murray helped Runcorn Linnets record their third win of the season against Kendal Town, with goals also from teammates Ryan Brooke and Alexander Downes for a 3-2 success.

Elsewhere, the only draw of the weekend came between Trafford and Widnes, with goals from Matthew Barlow and Jordan Southworth respectively for a 1-1 result.
