N/West Round-Up: Marske return to top five

By James Gordon

Marske United returned to the play-offs following a 1-0 win away from home to Pontefract Collieries.

Curtis Round scored the deciding goal on the 28th minute, as Marske returned to fifth-spot with 36 points.

At the top of the table, Workington scored three past Colne to claim the league points and remain in first place by just a single point over next best Ramsbottom United.

“It was brilliant; you can see the reaction of the lads,” vice-captain Brad Carroll told the club’s official website.

“After two disappointing results – when you think you should’ve got six points – to come here, and it’s a difficult place to come, and play how we did it was fantastic from the lads.

“In the last couple of games, we’ve conceded first. Teams then sit back and it just makes things that bit harder.

“The team spirit in the dressing room is just phenomenal. The lads are all round each other and training’s bouncing. It’s just good to get a reaction.”

Elsewhere in the play-offs, Iyrwah Gooden scored a hat-trick to help Ramsbottom United to a 5-2 victory over City of Liverpool.

Josh Hmani also scored a brace for the Rams, while Liam Hynes and Elliot Nevitt scored for the hosts.

Marine are also fighting for the top spot on 42 points following a 4-1 win over WIdnes, with Niall Cummins scoring all four. He has now scored eight goals in the last four fixtures in the league.

Clitheroe fell 2-1 short to Mossley, who are now 12th in the league table thanks to second-half goals from Mark Lees and Jes Uchegabulem.

At the bottom, Pickering Town defeated Ossett United 3-2, while Kendal Town claimed their first victory since November as they defeated Trafford.

Dunston defeated Tadcaster 1-0, while Prescott took a 4-0 victory over Droylsden.
