N/West round-up: Reds head perfect trio

By James Gordon

A near hour delay to kick-off couldn’t derail Workington’s perfect start to the season as they made it three wins from three.

Traffic delayed Pontefract Collieries on their trip to Borough Park, and after the game got underway in front of a 641-strong crowd, Scott Allison’s goals in either half were enough for a 2-1 win.

The Reds are one of three teams with 100% records in the BetVictor Northern Premier N/West Division - Marske United earned their third win as they beat Dunston 2-1 thanks to Andrew May’s late winner.

Also up at the top are Ramsbottom United, 1-0 winners over Trafford thanks to Tom Kennedy’s 74th minute goal.

Trafford are second bottom with three straight losses, a record they share with Pickering Town, who were thumped 5-0 at Tadcaster Albion.

Taddy scored all five in the first half, with Jonathon Margetts bagging a brace.

Remarkably, Taddy aside, the only other club to have won two games so far are Marine, who beat Prescot Cables 2-1. Niall Cummins and Steve Irwin scored either side of James Edgar’s penalty in a busy ending to the first half.

Connor McCarthy scored a brace to fire Runcorn Linnets to their first win of the season, 4-2 over City of Liverpool, while Colne registered their first win defeating Clitheroe 2-0.

Ossett United remain winless after going down 2-1 at home to Brighouse Town, for who Eddie Church scored a brace.

Kendal Town earned their first point of the season in a goalless draw against Widnes.

Droylsden came from behind to secure their first win, beating Mossley 2-1 - Domaine Rouse and Stephen Rigby the scorers.
