N/West round-up: Workington maintain perfect record

By James Gordon

Workington sit alone at the top of the BetVictor Northern Premier N/West Division after maintaining their 100% record at the weekend.

Jay Kelly’s first half goal was enough to record their fourth successive win in the league, away at City of Liverpool.

It leaves them top on 12 points after the other two sides with perfect records before the weekend both dropped points.

Marske United surrendered a one goal lead within a minute as they were held 1-1 by Widnes.

Andrew Stephenson fired them in to a 71st minute lead, but Josh Klein-Davies restored parity less than a minute later.

Ramsbottom United went down to their first defeat of the season, as they were turned over 2-0 by Pontefract Collieries.

Jameel Ible and Vaughan Redford scored in either half to earn Ponte their second win of the campaign.

The only other unbeaten team in the division are Marine, who beat Pickering Town 2-1 at the Marine Travel Arena.

Craig Lindfield scored on the stroke of half to put them in front, before Daniel Earl equalised five minutes in to the second half.

Niall Cummins struck the winner five minutes later.

Occupying the fifth play-off spot is Clitheroe, who have made an encouraging start to the season after a turbulent 2018/19 campaign.

They sent Trafford crashing to their fourth straight defeat with a 2-0 win at Shawe View, with a Connor Gaul penalty putting them in front on 43 minutes and Jordan Darr making sure in the final 10 minutes.

That leaves Trafford and Pickering as the only two sides without a point.

The other two sides without a win both suffered heavy defeats at the weekend.

Ossett United continue to struggle to adapt to the new division, thumped 4-0 at Colne.

It took 66 minutes for Colne to break the deadlock, Waqas Azam the scorer, but two goals in as many minutes from Sefton Gonzales and Anthony Donaldson got the points in the bag before William Harris’ late effort.

Kendal slumped to a 5-0 defeat at Mossley, with former Liverpool striker Adam Morgan scoring a hat-trick, his first goals for the club.

Runcorn Linnets fought back from 3-0 down to earn a point away at Dunston, who had led by three inside 25 minutes thanks to Luke Page, Mark Fitzpatrick and Cedwyn Scott.

By half time it was 3-2, courtesy of Declan McGivern and Ryan Gibson, and Connor McCarthy scored his third goal since returning from Warrington Town to snatch a point.

Elsewhere, Ioan Evans 80th minute equaliser secured a point for Tadcaster Albion at Prescot Cables, while Brighouse Town slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Droylsden, Daniel Wilkins scoring the only goal.
