Former Birmingham City midfielder Martin O’Connor has joined the academy at EVO-STIK League Chasetown.

The First Division South club announced on Wednesday that they’d signed the 46-year-old, pictured, to help train and develop the next generation of Scholars stars.

O’Connor made nearly 500 appearances in the Football League after kicking off his career in Non-League at Bromsgrove Rovers in the early 1990s before moving to Crystal Palace. He went on to play for Walsall and Peterborough United before making 186 appearances for Birmingham. Before being appointed assistant manager at Walsall in 2009, he also played for Shrewsbury Town and Kidderminster again.

A Scholars spokesman said: "Chasetown FC are very pleased to have added Martin O'Connor to our coaching staff at the academy. Martin brings to us a great presence and experience from his days at Walsall and Birmingham City."
