Only hours left to vote for legends!

By David Watters

The EVO-STIK League’s fans, players and officials have only hours left to vote for their legends of the last five decades before the public poll to mark the Northern Premier League's 50th anniversary season closes!

After 200 players were shortlisted from a cast of nearly 2,000 nominations back in October, the biggest vote in the NPL’s history over the last six weeks to choose a 'Team of all Time' and ‘Top 100’ players closes at a minute to midnight on Friday night.

The EVO-STIK League’s social media manager James Heyes urged fans to beat the deadline as the poll counted down at lunchtime on Friday with the legends who make the final cut set to feature in the first book charting the competition’s history that is currently being written and is due out at the end of the historic 2017-18 season.

Heyes said: "Apart from what is looking like a guaranteed 4-4-2 line-up which fans of clubs from Manchester United to Haslingden St Mary's and Horwich RMI Amateurs and just about every level in between have overwhelming chosen, the voting for the top one hundred is particularly close.

“I expect a lot of players to drop in or out in the final hours. There are nine goalkeepers within single digit votes of the two spots to make the cut for a start so nobody can count on any of their choices having made it yet. Every vote is being counted right up to midnight so there is still plenty of time for people to make a difference and make sure their legends are officially recorded in the NPL's proud history."

Check out the pen pix guides which have been pinned on the home page to help voters choose their legends in the online poll which is being run via the EVO-STIK League's official website and Facebook and Twitter pages.

Entitled '50 Glorious Seasons - A History of the Northern Premier League 1968-2018', the new book charting the NPL’s history is being penned by official historian and statistician Dominic McKenzie and will be out within weeks of the 2017-18 anniversary campaign ending. The players included are set to be unveiled at April’s 2018 Player of the Year Awards in Barnsley and then honoured again in June at the NPL's end of season awards night in Blackpool.
