Owls watching league's top scorer

The EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top scorer Alex Reid is being tracked by a number of pro clubs including Sheffield Wednesday whose scouts saw him score the opening goal in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Warrington Town at Dales Lane.

The Rushall Olympic striker, pictured, currently tops the EVO-STIK NPL's goalscoring charts across all three divisions having bagged 13 in 15 appearances so far this season at a ratio of almost a goal a game.

The Championship outfit are one of a host of Football League and National League sides including Tranmere Rovers now known to be keeping tabs on a player who bagged 26 goals last season in all competitions in his first campaign in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight.

Despite the former Aston Villa and Walsall frontman being under contract until the end of the season, Pics chairman and manager John Allen believes he will eventually be plying his trade further up football's pyramid with interest growing in his goal-scoring exploits.

The Pics manager backed Reid in an interview on Thursday with the Walsall Advertiser confirming that both Wednesday and Rovers had sent scouts to their midweek match, a result he described as feeling more like a defeat than a draw after his side lost a 2-0 lead.

Allen said: "There were Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere scouts at our game on Tuesday and there's no doubt in my mind that Alex will go on and play in the Football League. The goals he has got are down to the hard work he puts in and if he continues to do that, the Football League will beckon."
