Presentation to devoted defender

Colwyn Bay have been hailing full-back Luke Denson after he made his 200th competitive start for the club in last Saturday's 2-1 victory at Kendal Town in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

Denson is pictured being honoured by Colwyn Bay director Bill Murray on the pitch at Llanelian Road on Tuesday night before the Seagulls drew 2-2 draw with Radcliffe Borough in EVO-STIK NPL First Division North.

Denson made his debut as an 18-year-old in a 1-1 draw at Wakefield in 2009 in Division One North. He was then part of Neil Young's squad which won promotion that season with a play-off final win at Lancaster City. He repeated the feat the following year with Dave Challinor in charge as the Bay beat FC United of Manchester in the Premier Division play-off final to climb into the then Conference North.

Recalling the match in midweek, the defender said: "I think the FC United game is my best memory in a Bay shirt because we were at home in front of a huge crowd and it was a game not many people thought we would win.

"But that team had great belief and knew how to win games. In the recent unbeaten run we've had I have seen similarities between that team and the current squad and I believe the play-offs are a realistic target for us again."

After being tempted away by Young and then Challinor for spells with Chester and AFC Fylde to win two more promotions, Denson told fans that returning at the start of last season felt like coming home.

He added: "The fans have always been great with me and they were a big reason I came back. Relegation last season was a low point and I admit I was in two minds whether to stay, but when the chairman phoned me and told me the club's plans and ambitions, there was only one place I wanted to be."
