Appointed in November as the successor to Liam McDonald following his switch to National League Solihull Moors, Casey stood down on Tuesday morning after seeing his side slide from fourth to 12th in the EVO-STIK NPL's Premier Division table to sit seven points off the top flight's play-offs spots. His departure came just 24 hours after the club advertised for a new first team coach to assist him with team affairs at Keys Park.
The former Pitmen youth coach, pictured, returned to the club from Coleshill Town with high hopes after guiding the Midland Football League Premier Division outfit to runners-up and fifth-placed finishes his two seasons at the helm. Casey left having won just four of his fourteen games at the helm and secured a single draw.
The Pitmen - who were due to host Wolverhampton Sporting on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Staffordshire Senior Cup before the tie was postponed with a waterlogged pitch - announced Casey's departure in brief statement on their website promising to update fans on their newly vacant hot-seat.
The club said: "Following a meeting with Hednesford Town Football Club officials this morning, Tuesday 7 February, we can confirm that Paul Casey has resigned from his position as first team manager. More details will be released in due course."
