Premier Division preview: Hyde look to extend lead as strugglers visit South Shields

By James Gordon

Northern Premier League leaders Hyde United will look to extend their gap at the top of the table this weekend as they welcome Matlock Town to Ewen Fields.

The Tigers are unbeaten at home in the league since August and will be keen to extend their good run of form after notching an impressive 1-0 victory at South Shields in midweek.

The Gladiators, meanwhile, are currently six points off the pace, although they have won consecutive matches in league and cup.

Elsewhere, South Shields will hope to keep pace at the top as they host Belper Town.

The Nailers, currently bottom of the division, will be in for a tough test, having struggled for much of the 2022/23 campaign so far.

Meanwhile, FC United of Manchester will go in search of a third successive win as they face Warrington Rylands.

The Blues will look to gain some momentum in the league following their recent 2-0 win over Whitby Town last time out.

Third-placed Gainsborough Trinity are at home to Ashton United.

The Holy Blues will look to make it three consecutive league wins with three points on Saturday.

Curtis Woodhouse's Marske United travel to Cantilever Park to face Warrington Town.

Following their midweek defeat to Whitby, Mark Beesley’s Yellows will look to bounce back quickly and potentially climb as high as second in the table, depending on the outcome of other matches.

Marske, meanwhile, have failed to pick up three points in the league since the beginning of October, suffering back-to-back 3-2 defeats.

Liversedge will make a trip to Marine as they will look to climb out of the relegation places.

The Mariners currently sit fifth in the table, and a win for Neil Young’s side could see them go level on points with second-placed FC United of Manchester, depending on other results.

After ending a run of three successive defeats with victory over Bamber Bridge last weekend, Radcliffe will look to extend their good form at home to Guiseley.

Boro are currently unbeaten in all competitions since 1 October.

In Saturday afternoon’s other games, Stalybridge Celtic travel to Stafford Rangers.

Rangers are unbeaten at Marston Road since the end of August and will look to maintain their solid home record in this league this season.

Having suffered three straight defeats of late, Bamber Bridge make a trip to Atherton Collieries.

Colls are currently 14th, but would climb above the Brig with a win on Saturday.

In the bottom half of the division, Whitby Town welcome Lancaster City to the Turnbull Ground.

The Seasiders will hope for a repeat of their result in midweek, having ended Warrington Town’s good run of form with a 2-1 victory on home soil.

Finally, a Nantwich Town side sitting three points off the bottom will host Morpeth Town.

A win would mean a lot for both sides as the Dabbers have the chance to climb further up the league table, while Morpeth will look to jump into the top half.
