Premier Division preview: New dawn for Rylands, play-off duo face off

By James Gordon

There are plenty of mouth-watering fixtures to look forward to in the Northern Premier League this weekend.

League leaders South Shields play host to a Matlock Town side currently sitting just four points adrift of the play-off places.

Both sides will seek a return to winning ways, with the Mariners held to a 1-1 draw at Gainsborough Trinity in midweek and the Gladiators beaten 1-0 by Guiseley at home.

Meanwhile, third-placed Warrington Town will face Guiseley for the third time this season.

The Yellows are currently 12 games unbeaten, with their last defeat coming against Guiseley in a well-documented FA Trophy clash back in mid-November.

Fourth and fifth meet at Stainton Park as Radcliffe and Bamber Bridge lock horns.

A win for either side could see them finish the day as high as third, and neither will want to drop points as a cluster of play-off-chasing teams lurk just behind.

Elsewhere, Michael Clegg will take charge of Warrington Rylands for the first time as they visit Whitby Town.

Clegg was appointed earlier this week following the departure of Jody Banim.

All fixtures will take place on Saturday 18 February at 3pm, unless stated otherwise.
