Premier Division round-up: Bamber Bridge leave it late as play-off duo drop points

By James Gordon

Warrington Town missed the chance to close the gap to the top two in the Northern Premier League after being held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Whitby Town.

The Seasiders had led through Lewis Hawkins, but a red card for Malik Dijksteel gave the Yellows the impetus to turn things around through a Matty McDonald double.

Mark Beesley’s side were unable to further add to their lead after an inspired display from Whitby goalkeeper Shane Bland, and they were made to pay as the Seasiders levelled on 84 minutes through Aaron Braithwaite.

Elsewhere, Radcliffe’s recent unbeaten run came to an end as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Atherton Collieries.

A fine long-range effort from Marcus Cusani broke the deadlock, and the hosts were made to rue a first half penalty miss as Jay Fitzmartin secured the points at the death for Colls, who climb to 15th.

Bamber Bridge consolidated their play-off spot after scoring a late winner at Liversedge.

Paul Dawson and Jack Carr exchanged goals as the game entered the final quarter, and it took a moment of magic from Fin Sinclair-Smith to separate the sides as the Brig man fired home from 20 yards out to make it 2-1.

In the night’s only other game, Lancaster City recorded their third win in the last five matches with a 2-0 triumph at home to Marske United.

The damage was done in the first half-hour as Rudy Misambo and Niall Cowperthwaite struck for the Dolly Blues.
