Premier Division round-up: Tigers denied top spot after late leveller

By James Gordon

Hyde United missed the chance to move top of the Northern Premier League after being held to a 1-1 draw at Whitby Town.

In difficult conditions at the Turnbull Ground, the Tigers hit the front shortly before half-time when Jack Redshaw rounded the goalkeeper and finished smartly for his 11th goal of the season.

However, eight minutes from time the hosts drew level as young Harry Green’s cross-cum-shot from the angle somehow found its way into the back of the net.

The result means Hyde move level with league leaders South Shields but remain second in the table due to the Mariners’ superior goal difference.

Tuesday’s night’s other scheduled match between Marske United and Liversedge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
