Premier Round-up: Warrington Town go top

By James Gordon

There are new leaders of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division after Warrington Town inflicted a 3-0 defeat on overnight leaders South Shields at Cantilever Park on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of 505, Bohan Dixon gave the hosts a 37th minute lead before Jake Kirby marked his debut in style with the second goal 10 minutes from time.

Josh Amis added the third in stoppage time to send Paul Carden's men to the top of the division.

Basford United moved into second spot after edging out Workington AFC by the odd goal in five at Mill Street.

It looked bleak though for Martin Carruthers' side as the Reds led 2-0 with goals after 2 minutes from Conor Tinnion and 29 minutes from Matt Douglas.

Liam Hearn crucially pulled one back 10 minutes before the break and 10 minutes after it, Kole Lambert equalised.

Dominic Roma won it for the Nottinghamshire side 20 minutes from time.

Basford moved above Scarborough Athletic after they suffered a defeat by the same scoreline at the Flamingo Land Stadium in front of a largely disappointed crowd of 1,055.

Wayne Brooksby gave Boro a 27th minute lead that Danny Glover levelled after 39 minutes, only for James Walshaw to send the home side into the break in front.

But a late brace from Glover in the 83rd and 85th minutes to complete his hat-trick turned the game on its head and win it for the Dabbers.

Grantham Town are fifth after Ian Culverhouse's side edged another five-goal thriller at The Meres against Whitby Town.

The Gingerbreads fell behind to an 18th minute Dale Hopson penalty and an Adam Gell second 5 minutes later.

Ryan Oliver pulled one back before the break and the levelled 10 minutes into the second half, with Tom Siddons winning it for the home side in stoppage time.

At the other end of the table, Dave Frecklington had a big job on his hands at Matlock Town as they slid to the bottom of the table after they lost another five-goal encounter at Farsley Celtic, while Lancaster City finally broke their duck at the tenth attempt, beating Buxton 2-1 at Silverlands.

A quickfire Jimmy Spencer brace in the 38th and 40th minutes and a goal from Jack Higgins on 68 minutes secured a win for the Celts at Throstle Nest after Marcus Marshall had given Matlock a 13th minute lead and then levelled on 65 minutes.

Diego De Girolamo gave Buxton an early 5th minute lead which Lewis Fensome cancelled out 11 minutes into the second half.

Glenn Steel the popped up with the Dolly Blues first winning goal a minute from time.

North Ferriby United are looking a third successive relegation firmly in the face after a poor 4-0 home defeat to Witton Albion left them third-bottom with just one win to date.

James Foley and Will Smart both bagged braces for Albion.

Marine AFC earned a second win of the season at the Marine Travel Arena against Hednesford Town.

Craig Carney gave the Mariners a 15th minute lead that Reece King levelled 9 minutes before half-time.

But Chris Doyle after 57 minutes and James Murray 3 minutes from time won it for the hosts.

Hyde United edged out Mickleover Sports 2-1 at Ewen Fields.

Luke Porritt's 21st minute effort and a goal from former FC United of Manchester manager Tom Greaves just before the break gave the Tigers a cushion.

Ben Turner reduced it by one on the hour-mark but the visitors weren't able to find a leveller.

Not far away, Stalybridge Celtic won by the same scoreline at Bower Fold against Gainsborough Trinity – their first league defeat since the opening day.

Scott Bakkor's 8th minute goal led until the 86th minute when Matty Wolfenden doubled that, with Ross Hannah replying in stoppage time.

Biggest winners of the day were Bamber Bridge, who hammered Stafford Rangers 6-1 at Irongate.

Brig blew Rangers away with a fine performance which saw Ali Waddecar net four himself with Andy Haworth and Jordan Darr adding the others – Sam Coulson having equalised for Rangers after 25 minutes.

Round up thanks to Steve Whitney of Non League Today.
