Prolific striker joins Matlock Town

Matlock Town have signed Stamford forward Jonathan Margetts.

Margetts scored a mammoth 36 goals for the Daniels last term, 33 of them coming in league matches as he finished as the division's top scorer.

His goals also helped the club win the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division by a nine-point margin.

The 29-year-old started out at Hull City before featuring for Cambridge United, Tranmere Rovers, Lincoln City and Scunthorpe United, with loan spells at a number of non-league sides.

More recently, he has been with Boston United, Gainsborough Trinity, Frickley Athletic and Belper Town before his move to Stamford.

He becomes the club's fifth summer signing, following the arrival midfielders Andrew Wright and Ollie Clark, defender Joe West and winger Nathaniel Crofts.

“I’m absolutely delighted to get Jon’s signing over the line. It’s a real statement of intent from the club," manager Martin Carruthers said.

"To get a goalscorer in of this calibre shows the ambition we have here at Matlock. We had to be patient but everything’s fallen in nicely for us.

"It’s no secret that a regular goalscorer is something we lacked this season. It’s really exciting now with Reece Styche and Karl Demidh in there as well.”
