Promotion chasers do the double!

By David Watters

Nantwich Town and Shaw Lane Aquaforce are looking forward to collecting their second EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Club of the Month accolades of the season after being unveiled alongside Spennymoor Town as one of February’s trio of winning clubs.

Named on Monday as the second monthly winners of 2016, the three clubs are looking forward to being recognised for their success when they are crowned at upcoming fixtures.

Handed out every month, the performance honours are sponsored by Bostik Ltd, parent company of the Northern Premier League's title sponsors EVO-STIK, to recognise and reward the top performers in the league's three divisions.

As well as collecting inscribed glass trophies to mark their achievements from representatives of the sponsors and the EVO-STIK NPL, each club will also be presented with a 4.5 litre bottle of Bells Whiskey.

The Dabbers – who collected September’s accolade – pipped Stourbridge to the Premier Division’s award after knocking their rivals out of the FA Trophy and going on to book their berth in the semi-finals last weekend with a 2-1 victory over National League Dover Athletic.

In top flight action, Phil Parkinson’s side were unbeaten in their two outings and with games in hand, they still harbour hopes of promotion via the play-offs

Fittingly, the Dabbers were honoured within hours of being named, EVO-STIK NPL operations manager Alan Allcock presenting the club with their award on Tuesday night before their 5-1 win over Bamber Bridge in the Integro Doodson League Cup at Weaver Stadium, pictured.

With five games in hand on First Division South leaders Stafford Rangers, second-placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce are also pushing for promotion under manager Craig Elliott. They did their chances no harm in winning February’s performance accolade, notching up five straight league games without conceding a single goal.

After winning October's award, Elliott and his promotion chasers will be honoured next Tuesday night by EVO-STIK NPL representative Mark Ogley before they kick-off at home to Leek Town in First Division South at Shaw Lane.

First Division North winners Spennymoor Town will be the last of the three clubs to be honoured on Saturday 12 March before they kick off against Prescot Cables at The Brewery Field.

Under manager Jason Ainsley, the Moors are up to third spot in the table after a February that saw them record five straight league wins while scoring 22 goals and conceding just once.
