Quinn is back at new super club

By David Watters

Former Brighouse Town and Shaw Lane boss Paul Quinn will be back in the EVO-STIK League next season as assistant manager at newly founded Ossett United.

Quinn was named on Monday as number two to manager Andy Welsh after the new EVO-STIK League East club's foundation this summer following the merger of Ossett Albion and Ossett Town.

Quinn, who took Brighouse Town up into the EVO-STIK League during six successful years at the helm before taking charge at the Ducks last term, arrives with an extensive knowledge of the Northern Premier League and the game through his role as a Football Association coach.

Pictured left with Welsh, Quinn was brought in by the United manager to replace Mark Robertson following his switch to a full-time scouting role at Manchester City this summer after the pair turned around Ossett Albion's 2017-18 campaign over the last three months of the season.

Welsh told fans he was looking forward to working with Quinn when the club's squad return for pre-season training on July 3 ahead of a tough schedule of friendlies against the likes of Hyde, AFC Fylde and Leeds United.

The Ossett United boss said: “What excites me most about the opportunity to work with Paul is we hit it off straight away from our outlooks on the EVO-STIK League, player recruitment, formations, etc.

"After the first conversation he wanted to be alongside me on the first steps of this exciting new project and the opportunity to build, not just for one season but something that is going to be sustainable for years to come. This is something we can now focus on building for Ossett United.”

Quinn is the latest addition to the club's coaching staff as officials prepare for their inaugural season following the appointment of a three-man physio team, headed up by the old Ossett Town's Nick Short, a paediatrician and player analyst.

According to Ossett United CEO Phil Smith, exciting times lay are ahead for the club with a head of youth development also expected to be announced in the coming days.

Smith said: "Without a doubt Paul is the type of character we have been recruiting at this club since we began preparation for the new season - hardworking, knowledgeable and a well-respected member of the Non-League world.

"The chairman, John Chidlaw, has met with Paul Quinn and explained, as he has to the rest of us, that we are a club who recruit strong hungry individuals who are striving for success both on and off the field. Paul fancies this challenge and has been received by everyone with open arms.”
