Radcliffe midfielder announces imminent retirement

Northern Premier League leaders Radcliffe have confirmed that midfielder Luke Joyce is set to retire from football at the beginning of January.

The 36-year-old will do so in order to take up a full-time role as lead north scout of Premier League side Brentford.

Joyce has appeared over 70 times for the Boro since joining in the summer of 2022. He has gone on to become a virtual ever-present for the club in the heart of midfield over the past two seasons.

His playing career has spanned over 17 years and 700 senior appearances, plying his trade for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Carlisle United, Accrington Stanley and Port Vale.

Radcliffe have described Joyce as "an incredible servant", with his final game for the club set to come against Workington at the Neuven Stadium on January 6.

A club statement read: "His positive performances on the field, matched with his likeable personality off it has seen him undoubtedly become a fan favourite over the last couple of campaigns, and he will be greatly missed."
