Northwich Victoria manager Lee Ashcroft says he's delighted with the capture of striker Jamie Rainford from Conference North FC Halifax Town.

The former Chester forward, pictured, was on loan at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine earlier this season from the Shay, returning to the Premier Division Mariners' Arriva Stadium where he was top scorer for two seasons in September.

The First Division South Vics completed the deal for the frontman at lunchtime on Thursday and Ashcroft says he's looking forward to working with a player whose ability can only improve his already talented squad as they target a play-off spot in the second half of the campaign.

He said: "Jamie is a proven goal scorer with a great pedigree and has found the net at every level he has played. We are more than happy to give Jamie a platform to get what has been a stop-start season for him back on track and in turn Jamie believes he can score the goals that could help Vics to secure a play-off place."
